Painting, sculptures, craft exhibited at 22nd edition of Havana Book Fair

The 22nd edition of the International Book Fair of Havana began on February 14 at the expansive, picturesque and historic San Carlos de la Cabana Fortress.{{more}}

The celebrated national cultural Event of Cuba was attended by the hierarchy of the Ministry of Culture under the Minister Rafael Benal, with addresses by the featured guest of the fair this year – Pedro Pablo Rodriquez and Daniel Chavarria.

The Havana Book Fair is dedicated to the Apostle of the Independence of Cuba who was born 160 years ago – Jose Marti. The special guest of the fair this year was the Republic of Angola – the first from Africa.

On exhibition were paintings, sculptures and craft of Cuba and Angola. The official delegation of Angola was headed by Minister of Culture of Angola Rosa Cruz de Silva and included writers, musicians, performers, government official such as the Cabinet Secretary of the Government of Angola.

St Vincent and the Grenadines registered their presence this year by a small delegation from the Vincentian Association of Artists, Writers and Producers – Book Seller Representative Michele Samuel, from Jujube Bookstore; René Baptiste, Association president; Head of University of West Indies Open Campus St Vincent and the Grenadines – Deborah Dalrymple and Deputy Chairman of National Lotteries Authority – Allison Thomas.

The St Vincent and the Grenadines exhibition stand featured books by Vincentians; give -ways from the SVG Tourism Authority; DVD display of “Steel And Glitter 2012”; and posters of Eco-tourism scenes and the Botanical Gardens.

Visitors remembered Saeed and the artists from last year and asked if they would be performing again this year!

St Vincent and the Grenadines was the lone representative of the Caribbean present at the prestigious event that saw more than 30 countries exhibiting and hosting dozens of book launches.
