Early last week, SSS received financial assistance from insurance company Sagicor, for the SSS breakfast and lunch programme. The students who attend the SSS are primarily from low socio-economic backgrounds.

Students who come to school without breakfast are provided a light snack, with lunch also provided free of cost to students who are unable to pay, and at a minimal cost to those who can.

The policy of the programme is that no student would be denied a meal.

At last Monday’s handover ceremony, Sagicor representative Desra Glasgow told the students that her company was very pleased to be able to assist by partnering with SSS, in this meaningful way.

Jasmine Francois-Creese, coordinator of SSS, thanked Sagicor for what she described as a timely partnership.

She thanked the representatives for taking the initiative to invest in the nation’s children, after explaining that the programme had been suspended last school term, because it was non-profit and could not sustain itself.

The Student Support Services was established in September 2009.

Apart from Sagicor, The Mustique Company and Eastern Caribbean Group of Companies (ECGC) have also contributed to the programme.(JJ)
