Fifty health professionals participate in Needle Stick Injury workshop

Healthcare workers throughout the Caribbean are reportedly being exposed to needle stick injuries and blood borne pathogens, while at the workplace.{{more}}

It is with this in mind that 50 Health professionals employed within the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment participated in a regional training workshop on Needle Stick Injury and Blood Borne Pathogen Prevention on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Outpatient Department of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The workshop was an initiative of the Pan American Health Organization, and one which the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment hosted in collaboration with the St George’s University, Grenada, a release from the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment said.

According to the release, the workshop included a workplace assessment of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, as well as a review of guidelines and policies which are available to address health care workers involved with needle stick injuries and blood borne pathogen exposure.

The facilitators were Dr Roger Radix and Dr Praveen of the St George’s University, as well as Dr Jose Davy of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
