In an effort to both educate and entertain, members of the credit union interacted with the students with the aid of a PowerPoint presentation.
Through the interactive session, led by Anton Jardine, the assistant systems administrator, students exhibited exceptional literate skills, as they read some of the presentation and confidently sounded out and pronounced words that were not familiar to them.
Cheryl Bacchus, the senior marketing officer of GECCU, encouraged the children to be brave in their life endeavours.
Bacchus pointed out to the children that she was not always a talkative person, but because of her job, she had to adapt and become less shy.
âI love to talk, my job is to talkâ¦if Iâm not brave, I canât talk to the big crowds about GECCU,â she said.
The marketing officer further assured the class, which was filled with aspiring lawyers, doctors, policemen and policewomen, that they will grow out of their shyness as they get older.
Janice King, a member of the Education Committee, also gave the students tips on studying and how to focus at school.
âWe are interested in saving our education for the future, so that you can be who you want to be,â King told the children.
Other employees of GECCU were also present and interacted with the children, telling them about their respective roles in the company.
Among these employees were Damoris Alexander, internal auditor; Cornelia Moses, operations officer; Ryan Hazell, payroll officer; Gertrude Jacobs, loans officer and Elias Francis, system administrator.
After a week of events, the Kingstown Government Schoolâs literacy week comes to an end today.(BK)
