Students from 16 schools across the country participated in the showing, where a range of innovative projects were displayed, including a model of a geothermal plant, a model of a solar powered oven and a model of an emergency traffic route for capital Kingstown, among others.
VINLEC, the major sponsor of the event, provided support for the venture, in keeping with a commitment to develop the minds of youths in this country, through its contribution to education. In supporting the exposition, the company anticipates that students across the country will be encouraged to embrace science and technology as part of everyday life. VINLEC also supports the teaching and promotion of science and technology in an effort to reduce the barriers between science and society.
According to officials from the Ministry of Education, they will be seeking to have participation from a larger number of schools in 2014, to ensure that students at the national level have a greater appreciation for the discipline. They noted that despite the absence of the exposition for six years, the displays presented were outstanding.
The exposition was held from January 21-25 at the Girl Guides Headquarters, under the theme âDeveloping a Scientifically Literate Society Through Innovative Science and Technologyâ.
