Students said they worked hard planning and organizing their launch, contributing their free periods, recess and break sessions.
They say the launch surpassed their expectations and that of their teachers and schoolmates.
The launch included a prayer and an introduction of each member, including president Malikha Providence and vice president Ashini Best.
The president and vice president gave very auspicious speeches, outlining the goals and plans of the SJCK young leaders 2013.
The project is being conducted under the sub-theme âTo succeed, change is what we need; look into yourself and be that changeâ.
Providence mentioned some of the issues that are most prevalent around the world and in particular in St Vincent and the Grenadines â including bullying, cyberbullying, easy access to alcohol â and how the young leaders plan to be the change.
Providence quoted world leaders, including the Dalai Lama, who said âHuman potential is the same for all. Your feeling of âIâm of no valueâ is wrong, absolutely wrong; you are deceiving yourselves. We all have the power of thought, so what are you lacking? If you have will-power then you can change anything!â
Best mentioned that the SJCK young leaders are utilizing the technology of todayâs world, along with various media, to reach out not only to the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines, but also the people of the world, to tell their message of peace.
âWe will do so through Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. You will be able to hear us on the radio, see us on TV and in the newspaper,â she said.
She also asked the public to help them with their project.
An entertainment segment followed the speeches and some members of the SJCK young leaders sang Michael Jacksonâs âMan in the mirrorâ.
The students shared a thought to remember:
âIn a world where fitting in seems to be the only option when living amongst all the challenges we face is becoming increasingly harder, believe it or not, being yourself is the better option. Each and every one of us has the power to change the world and when our individual powers combine, we can become an unstoppable force.
KEEP CALM AND BE THE CHANGE!â
