Leafless banana plant starts to wither

After seven weeks, the leafless but flowering banana plant at the home of SEARCHLIGHT reporter Audwin Andrews is beginning to show signs of demise.{{more}}

Andrews was surprised when a bunch of bananas began growing on the plant three weeks after it was felled.

An agricultural official said that the plant might have accumulated enough nutrients before it was cut down to allow it to sprout the hands of bananas.

The official, however, added that the fruits were unlikely to continue to maturity.

And, the signs of withering the fruits exhibited this week suggest that Andrews will not be eating any bananas from this plant. Well, at least not from this bunch.
