There were no reports of the loss of life or serious damage following a fire on Saturday on-board the ferry Admiral II.{{more}}

The incident occurred sometime after 6 p.m., as the boat was making its way into Port Elizabeth, Bequia.

Managing director of Admirality Transport Company Captain Elvis Gooding told SEARCHLIGHT yesterday that an electrical fire occurred in the vessel’s engine room.

“These things do happen,” Gooding said.

“It’s a good thing that no one was hurt,” he added.

He commended the crew for their swift work saying that they were able to move all passengers on board to the bow of the vessel, from where they disembarked when the vessel docked.

As a result of the incident, service has been terminated indefinitely, or at least until the damage can be repaired, Gooding said.

Admiral II is one of several ferries that make daily voyages between Kingstown and Bequia. (DD)
