Mikhail Charles called to the Bar of England

Mikhail Charles, of Buccament Bay, was called to the Bar of England and Wales at The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple on November 20 in London.{{more}}

Charles is the first child of Minister of National Reconciliation Maxwell Charles and Doris Charles, minister counsellor at the St Vincent and the Grenadines High Commission in the United Kingdom.

The younger Charles and his family and in a statement that Charles has already joined the chambers of Rene Baptiste as a junior associate and is expected to hold tenure from March 2013.

He is slated to complete a six-month papillae, and is anticipating being called to the Local Bar shortly thereafter.

Charles attended the St Vincent Grammar School and St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College.

He credits his time spent at the then National Commercial Bank — now Bank of SVG — and lawyer Duane Daniel with focusing his mind on commercial law.

“Charles is persuaded that this pathway provided the avenues for lawyers like him to encourage a thriving private sector, which adds to the backbone of SVG’s economy,” the statement said.

“He is also qualified as a real estate valuator; holds a Post Graduate Certificate in business management and is an active martial artist and cricketer.”

Charles completed his law degree at the University of Wales with Upper Second Class Honours and the Bar Professional Training Course (City University Law School).

“He returns to SVG with considerable legal and commercial experience having served as a certified Manager at Graze.com for three years and Legal Manager at Garners Chartered Accountants. He intends to focus primarily on the commercial and business aspects of the law with a bias towards mediation, arbitration, company and general commercial law,” the release further said.

“He considers himself a ‘hidden patriot’ and is involved with various initiatives for development and growth in SVG. Chief amongst these is acting as an adviser to Kenrick Quashie, CEO of Youth Business Programme in SVG and consulting for Pickyourvehicle.com, another thriving Vincentian business.”

He gives special thanks to God, his grandmother Ruby Mattis of Vermont, his parents, Amanda Da Silva, his brother Chevanev, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, cousin Louis Straker; Cheryl-Ann Smith, Kathy-Ann Barnwell, other members of his extended family,; past teachers, past colleagues and the Seventh Day Adventist Church for supporting him thus far.
