She was responding to the donation of $10,522, money that was raised by the students of the school to assist Thomasâ 12-year-old daughter Lejun with her dialysis treatment.
Thomas said that her daughter was diagnosed with kidney failure in June this year and she now requires dialysis treatment three times a week.
According to Thomas, each of these three-hour sessions costs $500.
âItâs real burdensome,â Thomas said, adding that apart from the assistance of some friends, the bill has to be paid by her and her husband.
âThe contribution has been a great help ⦠Iâm very grateful,â Thomas said.
âIt is going to make a lot of difference for us and for Lejun,â she continued.
She said that she was so overwhelmed by the gesture that she was brought to tears.
Thomas thanked the students of the GHS and said that she is especially thankful to the schoolâs Headmistress Andrea Bowman, who she said has been offering assistance.
The woman said that the family are now looking for a long-term solution and should a suitable kidney donor be found, Lejun will be going to Trinidad for surgery. (DD)
