Police chief moving to address security issues on Bequia

Commissioner of Police Keith Miller has begun to address a number of issues facing residents of Bequia, the Police Force said in a press release yesterday.{{more}}

Miller made a two-day routine visit to Bequia on October 23 and 24.

On October 23, he joined Minister of Tourism Cecil “Ces” McKie in noting the concerns of residents and stakeholders of the tourist industry.

On the second day, he was joined by Frankie Joseph, assistant commissioner of police responsible for operations; Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kenneth John, head of the Traffic Department, and a contingent of police officers from the Traffic Department; Inspector of Police Hawkins Nanton, deputy head of the Police Public Relations and Complaints Department, and members of the telecom workshop.

The police chief heard of problems facing persons in the yachting industry, along with traffic related problems, such as the operation of roadside mechanic shops, derelict vehicles at roadsides, traffic control markings and road signs, and general policing issues.

“We used the opportunity to do general traffic checks, meet with residents and have some corrective measures put in place immediately,” Miller said.

ASP John said notices have been served to owners of the derelict vehicles and immediate action has been taken to contact persons who operate the roadside mechanic shops.

The visit also facilitated the distribution of 1,200 gallons of water to the Port Elizabeth Police Station.

The commissioner and his team also visited staff at the police stations and took measurements to have repairs carried out at the Paget Farm Police Station.
