Clare Keizer, editor of SEARCHLIGHT and chief executive officer of Interactive Media, which owns the newspaper, said in a statement yesterday that the crime took place around 4:20 p.m.
Keizer said two men came to the front door of the building and indicated they wanted to be let in and a staff member opened the door.
âAfter they entered the front office area, one of the men opened the barrier separating the reception area from the back office, and made his way to the desk of a particular employee.
âAfter repeatedly making certain demands of the employee in a threatening manner, the man was able to access a certain amount of cash, after which he and his accomplice fled the scene,â Keizer said in the statement.
She said this was the first time such an incident had taken place at the 17-year-old company, which has been located in Lower Kignstown Park since 2002.
Keizer said the employees involved are âunderstandably shaken upâ and that the company is taking âevery reasonable measure to beef up security to minimize the chances of something like this happening again.
âWe are working very closely with the police in an effort to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice,â she said in the statement.
