Finalists in Secondary Schools Public Speaking competition named
The six finalists in the Lions Club St Vincent South/Lime National Secondary Schools Public Speaking Competition are now known.{{more}}
They were selected after the staging of the final round of the Zonal Preliminaries at the Barrouallie Learning Resource Centre last Friday.
They are Kyle James of the St Vincent Grammar School, Dânain Johnson of the Emmanuel High School, Mesopotamia, Sylvorne Lavia of the North Union Secondary, Nyasha Mofford of the St Vincent Girls High School, Delight Ollivierre of the Mountain View Adventist Academy and Lexie Selman of the Bishopâs College Kingstown.
Senior Education Officer for Secondary Schools Carlton Hall registered his Ministryâs satisfaction at the turnout of schools in this yearâs preliminaries, and commended the Lions Club for its commitment and for again hosting the competition, a release from the Lions Club South said.
Meanwhile, Chief Judge Theresa Daniel disclosed âthat the preliminaries this year were of a very high standard and students were very thorough in their research and presentation throughout and noted that while there were some outstanding presentations in the impromptu category, it still remains a challenge for most students. She made an urgent appeal for teachers to work with students to improve this component of the competition.â
The Finals are set for the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown on October 25, and students are expected to debate the topic, âIn Times of Economic Crises, Corruption and Fraud have become COmmonplace: The Case of St Vincent and the Grenadinesâ.
The students are this year competing for a new challenge trophy named in honour of deceased Charter Member, Lion Michael Defreitas, MJF.
