Venezuelan Embassy to host Fourth International Seminar on Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America

The West is still the region with the most examples of colonialism in the world.{{more}}

And it is with this in mind that the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will be hosting the Fourth International Seminar on Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America from November 23 to 25.

The two-day meeting is expected to bring together experts who will make presentations on the issue of colonialism.

According to Yoel Perez Marcano, the Venezuelan Ambassador, the United Nations has been working on the decolonization of people.

“Although they have done a lot of work, there are still many nations and people who are still colonized,” he said.

Colonialism is a serious problem for those whom it affects, Marcano contended.

“This affects their human rights and they miss opportunities for development,” the ambassador continued.

The UN General Assembly has dedicated the decade from 2011 to 2020 to the eradication of colonialism and has concluded that it is necessary to continue with the process, the ambassador explained.

A number of experts from around the region will join local intellectuals and it is expected that the information coming from the two-day seminar will be collected and put into a document.

The call to the seminar is to debate old and new expressions of colonialism and its derivatives, with the final objective that of overcoming the traditional concepts and treatment that continue to exist.

He said that Venezuela is committed to the task of eradicating colonialism.

St Vincent and the Grenadines was selected to host the event as a central location, but according to Marcano, it is in no way an attempt to interfere with the internal affairs of the country.

The invitation is for diplomats, intellectuals, academics, social activists, indigenous peoples and descendants. (DD)
