BOSVG offers $10,000 sponsorship for 2012 Theatre Arts Festival

Laughter, sorrow, romantic drama and many lessons to be learned are what is in store{{more}} for patrons attending this year’s Bank of St Vincent and the Grenadines (BOSVG) sponsored Theatre Arts Festival.

In the festival, which gets underway on November 2, performances will be held every weekend, leading up to December 2, with five drama groups showcasing their acting skills on stage, at the Peace Memorial Hall.

The Remnants of Gideon drama group takes the stage during the first weekend November 2 to 4, with their presentation “Bride of Envy”.

The other groups are: Agape (Methodist Dramatists) with “Number 7”; the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Performing Arts Society – “For better or for worse”; the Division of Nurses Performing Arts Club (DON PAC) – “Black Mail” and the Police Drama Club, who up to press time did not submit a name for their presentation.

Speaking at a media launch on Tuesday at the New Kingstown Public Library conference room, Drama Development Officer Martin Quashie promised patrons an exciting festival with top class performances from the five groups.

“Right now, they are in the process of getting organized and getting ready to blow off when the shows start in November.

“We have a very good crop of actors and actresses this year,” Quashie said.

Tickets for the event are on sale for EC$20 nightly and $80 for season pass.

“I am appealing to the public of St Vincent and the Grenadines and the business places as well, that you please support the people of our nation…” Quashie further noted.

A sponsorship cheque of EC$10,000 was also presented to the festival’s committee by main sponsors, Bank of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Lidia Williams, the bank’s representative said the financial institution is committed to supporting the event, as it plays a major part in the development of young Vincentians.

“The Bank of St Vincent and the Grenadines Limited applauds the dedicated members of the performing arts and their efforts to bring awareness to the art of drama,” Williams said.

After learning of the participating groups planned presentations, Senator Elvis Charles said he is eagerly looking forward to seeing the performances.

According to Charles, young people who participate in activities as the Theatre Arts Festival are more focused individuals.

“Whenever we have our children participating in these activities, we develop their focus, we develop their talents, we bring out that richness in them and I am one of the persons who always believes that if we develop activities to keep our children busy, they develop a sense of focus.

“It will soon become an attitude,” the Senator said. (AA)
