This declaration was made by Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, who contended that it was an important comment to make.
âBecause every now and then, you may hear a commentator pointing to this or that difference between the United States of America and St Vincent and the Grenadines, or the OECS on this or that matter,â he explained.
It was expected that between close allies that there would be differences, Gonsalves said.
âAfter all, the United States is a continental country; we are a small island. The very nature of our geography invites certain different perspectives on some matters in the international political system,â the prime minister said.
The US would have certain ideas with regard to trade relations, while we will have our own perspectives, he continued.
âBut what we do whenever there are these differences, we seek to talk about and resolve them as far as humanly possible.â
Should the occasion arise where this country is forced to hold a different opinion, Gonsalves said that a decision would be made then to respectfully agree to disagree.
âBut that does not alter the fact that the relationship is fundamentally healthy,â he said. (DD)
