In keeping with their theme for 2012, “Save today, help someone tomorrow”, the credit union has recognized the importance of education, especially for the youths in the organization and the community as a whole.

Last Saturday, at a short ceremony, the credit union handed over one scholarship and 11 bursaries to the students, 11 of whom are Junior Savers with the BCCU.

The scholarship recipient was Teriecia Rock, while the 11 bursary winners were Mukassa Gaymes, Joshwayne Gaymes, Sarine Hannaway, Loren Quow, Tamera Cordice, Asrick Walters, Odorie Scott, Ineika Ashton, Faecia Farrell, Ashley Richardson and Roniqueka Gaymes.

Philbert Gould stressed the importance of having a sound education and urged the students to be disciplined in their studies, so as to be able to capitalize on the opportunities which are available now and for most part are given more freely in this country than in many of our sister countries and which we take for granted.

He also encouraged the parents of the recipients to help their children in every way possible in their education, but also to be good Junior Savers, as they too can “Save today and help someone tomorrow.”
