Rehabilitation projects valued at $3.4 m begin
Construction work valued at some $3.4M was expected to have begun yesterday, under the Hurricane Tomas Emergency Recovery Project (HTERP).{{more}}
In the constituency of Marriaqua, Hutchinson Construction Ltd. will conduct river defense works in the Hopewell-Zenga River and rehabilitate the Hopewell Road above it, at a combined cost of $1.24M. The works there are expected to last eleven months. Franco Construction Ltd. shall carry out river defence strengthening works valued at about $1.04M in the Teviot River and should complete the project by March 2013.
Meanwhile, in North Leeward, Fraser Construction Ltd. will be conducting some $1.11M in construction works at the Rose Bank and Rose Hall Community Centres. The centres will be rehabilitated, extended and retrofitted to meet NEMOâs hurricane shelter standards. The works at both sites is expected to end by April 2013.
The Rillan Hill Community Centre, and the Georgetown Primary, Georgetown and Troumaca- Ontario Secondary Schools are also earmarked for hurricane shelter works upgrades.
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Hurricane Tomas Emergency Recovery Project (HTERP) was declared effective by the World Bank on May 4, 2011 and is being implemented over a three-year period that ends on December 31, 2013. The HTERP is financed by credit from the International Development Agency (IDA) totalling US$5M. The objectives of the project are to support St. Vincent and the Grenadinesâ efforts to rehabilitate damaged and vulnerable infrastructure caused by the passage of Hurricane Tomas, and to strengthen the ability to analyze location specific risks.
The HTERP is being implemented by the Public Sector Investment Programme Management Unit (PSIPMU) of the Central Planning Division.
