René Baptiste returns from ILO Training Courses

Attorney at Law René Baptiste attended a one-week training course sponsored by the International Labour Organization (ILO) of Geneva, Switzerland and the International Labour Organisation Training Centre, Turin, Italy, which was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port of Spain, Trinidad last week.{{more}}

The training course was specifically designed for Judges, Lawyers and Legal Educators of the Caribbean Region. It covered areas such as International Labour Standards; International Labour Conventions and their application; the role and authority of Labour Tribunals; Industrial Courts, and the 2012 status of Caribbean countries vis-à-vis ratifications of the 8 Fundamental Labour Conventions, the 4 Governance Priority Conventions and the 177 Technical Conventions.

Participants were drawn from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, St Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, St Lucia, Barbados, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Jamaica, Bahamas, Belize, Grenada and host country Trinidad and Tobago and included Judges, Magistrates, Lawyers and Law Professors.

Facilitators and presenters included the Head of the Department of International Labour Standards in Geneva, Dr Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry; retired Eastern Caribbean Court Judge Denys Barrow; Professor Cumberbatch, as well as personal from ILO Headquarters in Geneva.

Baptiste recently concluded a consultancy with the ILO on National Tripartite Labour Policies on HIV and AIDS and NCDs for St Vincent and the Grenadines.
