SVG-CIC appoints new Chief

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SVG-CIC) has announced the appointment of Michael F. Nanton as its new Executive Director. Nanton assumed the position on Monday, July 2, 2012.{{more}}

He has recently returned to the island from Canada, where he resided for the past 8 years.

Nanton, a former Council Member of the Chamber, is well suited to the position of Executive Director, given his academic qualifications and wealth of business experience. He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies (UWI), from which he gained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management. Additionally, he holds a Canadian Securities Course Certificate, has held Canadian Life Insurance and Mutual Funds Licenses and has attained the City and Guilds Institute, London U.K Full Technological Certificate in Telecommunications.

Nanton was a former head of Business Human Resources with LIME, then Cable and Wireless. At times, he also acted as General Manager of the Company. In 2003, after a thirty-year span with Cable & Wireless, Nanton and his family migrated to Canada, where he provided personal insurance and investment solutions to clients in a sales and advisory capacity.

He founded his own Consultancy, providing business management services in organizational transformation, with specialist emphasis on organizational design, human resources management and development, and strategic planning and implementation.

The new Executive Director considers that his function with the Chamber will be to significantly contribute in a leadership role towards the growth and development of the organization through utilizing his proven skills, abilities, knowledge and experience’ acquired and developed through extensive study, provision of consultancy services and managerial portfolios held in the areas of Human Resources Management and Business Management and Development.

Michael Nanton is an ardent tennis player and in his more youthful days, represented St Vincent and the Grenadines, the OECS and Barbados at the regional level. He also served at the national level as a sports administrator.

As a priority, the Executive Director plans to meet on a face-to-face basis with the business community, both members and non-members. The threefold purpose of the visitations will help him to gain a better understanding as to how best the Chamber can more effectively meet their needs, increase its numerical strength and ensure its vibrancy and respect as the definitive voice of the business community.

In appointing Nanton to the post of Executive Director, the President and Council of the SVG-CIC are highly confident that, given his academic qualifications, business experience, high level of commitment and enthusiasm, on assuming the position he will be able, in conjunction with all stakeholders, to revitalize the St Vincent and the Grenadines Chamber of Industry and Commerce, so that the organization continues to be truly relevant to its constituency. As such, the Chamber now looks forward to a bright future in its service to the local business community.
