Cedars gets stainless steel traffic mirrors

The Cedars Youth Development Group, a small community group established to promote community spirit and togetherness, on June 23 installed two 32-inch stainless steel traffic mirrors at the Cedars’ gap, near to Cornelius ‘Con’ Ollivierre’s residence.{{more}}

The mirrors were donated by Kenneth De Lecia and Emerson Hull, two Vincentian-born citizens presently residing in the United States of America. The mirrors were presented to the group leader Lisa De Lecia, who had sought donations, stressing the importance of road safety for pedestrians and motorists.

ASP John, the guest speaker at the dedication service, stressed the importance of the mirrors in saving lives. He also mentioned that more projects of this sort should be implemented. Frederick Stevenson, the area representative for South Windward, commended the group for their hard work in acquiring and installing the mirrors on their own account, with limited governmental assistance.

The President of the group, Lisa De Lecia, indicated in her opening remarks that the group was formed since December 2010, under the name Cedars Youth Carolers, with just 9 individuals and grew at the end of December 2011 to 23 members, when they held their first ever Nine Mornings and Lighting Celebrations. Presently the group, recently renamed, has 32 members operating under the theme, “Helping the Nation through Community Work and Dedication.”

A release said the group plans to make this year’s Nine Mornings and Lighting Celebrations bigger and brighter, as declared by the president. They even hope to realize a few more projects, such as a Cedars lookout point that would overlook the Brighton Recreational Pond and the St Matthew’s Anglican Parish, Biabou, as a means of beautification and community development; deliver food baskets and visit the poor and needy in the community to try address social problems and have health walks to promote a healthier lifestyle among community members and the general public.

The Cedars Youth Development Group would like to thank all the individuals who attended, participated or assisted in making the group launching and traffic mirror dedication service a success.

“Also we would like to express our gratitude to the traffic department for the mirror installation and road signs. The group wishes to encourage residents of Cedars and business enterprises to assist the group in what ever way they can to help make their future projects and endeavours a reality,” the release said.
