Co-operative Enterprises aim to ‘Build a Better World’

An eighteen-member delegation, representing the St Vincent and the Grenadines Co-operative League, attended the CCCU 55th Annual International Convention and 41st Annual General Meeting at the Ritz Carlton Golf and Spa Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica from June 23 – 26, 2012.{{more}}

The convention was held under the theme: “Cooperative Enterprises Build a Better World”.

Presentations and discussions during the sessions were on topics such as: The New Work Order and the Co-operative Paradigm; Best Practices in Credit Union Performance; Strategic Alliances and Relationships: The Way to Profitability; Federated Structure, Integrated Network: The Desjardins Experience; The Importance and Future of Credit Unions Globally; What do Young People Want and Need from their Financial Institutions; Anti-Money laundering – Know your Responsibilities; Credit Union Brand Engineering, etc.

Featured speakers were drawn from the Caribbean and the Credit Unions Executive Society (CUES), an independent not-for-profit international membership association for credit union executives.

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Co-operative League was specially honoured at this year’s Convention. The Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU) invited Shaunelle Mc Kenzie, the winner of St Vincent and the Grenadines National International Year of Co-operatives (IYC 2012) Song Contest to do a live performance at the Opening Ceremony. Mc Kenzie’s performance was witnessed by over 600 cooperators.

During the Convention, six delegates represented the SVG Co-operative League at CCCU’s 41st Annual General Meeting. The AGM received Annual Reports and Financial Statements for the period ended December 31, 2011. Resolutions to address the Collaborative Strategies for meeting the many challenges the Caribbean Financial Services Industry were expected to be adopted at the AGM. The convention culminated with the production of a Communiqué, featuring the major outcomes.
