Parents of children who have been issued netbook computers by the government should pay closer attention to what their children are using them for.{{more}}
As he addressed a ceremony at the Centre of Excellence at Diamond on Tuesday, Minister of National Mobilization Frederick Stephenson said he is aware that some parents have been blaming the government for some of the websites their children visit on the laptops.
Stephenson says he wants parents to stop laying blame on the government and be more responsible and committed to what their children are viewing.
âI was listening a few weeks ago on radio and a parent was calling in saying that the government distributed laptop to students and they didnât block them from certain sites; but the government has a responsibility and the parents also have a responsibility to look at the laptops and look at what their children are doing and not to lay blame solely on the shoulders of the government.
âIf the parents had bought their own laptops for their children, they would have wanted to see what their children are doing with the laptops; but you see sometimes we get things free and they donât care.â
Stephenson also said the government continues to work hard to ensure that Vincentians advance in technology and encouraged persons to ensure that they use the Centre of Excellence for the right purposes.
âI want to encourage persons who would come to this Centre to use this facility well and make the best use of it,â he stated.(AA)
