St Benedict’s was originally opened in 1960 and has provided countless benefits to the Vincentian community in its more than 40 years of service. It provides an enhanced quality of life to the country’s most vulnerable and often most neglected citizens: children with physical and/or mental disabilities. While St Benedict’s always welcomes donations from the community, CIBC FirstCaribbean wants to make sure that its pledge is extra special.

According to Sister Nyra Anne, the money will go towards repairing the entrance to a recently extended wing of the facility. She said that it is important to the safety of the children to have these repairs done, especially now that the hurricane season is upon us. “God has answered our prayers,” noted Sister Nyra Anne. She also expressed gratitude to CIBC FirstCaribbean for considering St Benedict’s as one of the beneficiaries of its generosity.

Managing Director for Retail Banking at CIBC FirstCaribbean Rolf Phillips said the decision was an easy one that is in sync with the Bank’s continued commitment to a wide range of educational, humanitarian, youth development and entrepreneurship programmes that benefit a wide cross-section of people across the region. In particular, the bank has concentrated a large portion of its donations towards the development of the young people of the Caribbean.

Country Head Elroy John stated that the Bank had a special affiliation with St Benedict’s Day Nursery and Children’s Hospital and has always been keen on supporting this very important cause.
