Alexander placed 9th overall in the Common Entrance Exams and 5th for girls. Assessing her performance during an interview with SEARCHLIGHT on Wednesday, she said she thought her grades were “okay.”

“…Well I know I could have done better, but I tried my best,” she stated. Alexander, a student of the Calliaqua Anglican Primary School, gained 88 per cent for English Language, 96 per cent for Mathematics and 83 per cent for General Paper.

“I was surprised, but still happy that I came in the top ten and it was worth it,” Alexander said about how she felt when she first saw her results. Alexander is the daughter of Marlon Alexander and Diana Nelson; her stepfather is Terrance Nelson.

Alexander stated that she studied hard and was focused as she prepared for her examinations. “I just thought I would do good and I prayed to God and I did well,” she added.

She added that the exams were manageable, with the easiest one for her being Mathematics, which is also her favourite subject.

Alexander enjoys singing, dancing, acting and reading and hopes to become a teacher or a lawyer in the future. “I want to be a teacher, so that I can teach children new things everyday and I would like to be a lawyer so that I could give justice to people who need it,” she said.

She plans to work hard when she attends the GHS and perform well at CSEC, she added.

“We were expecting her to do this well…we really were expecting her to do her best and we were expecting her to come in the first ten,” Joshuanna’s mother said.

“Well, she was always focused, she works well and she’s a Christian, so I think everything worked together for good for her,” Nelson added.

Alexander also had some advice for students who will be writing the CEE next year. “I would advise students to work hard and stay focused and if you put a positive attitude towards it, you will always accomplish things and if you trust in God, you will always accomplish things,” she said.(OS)
