EC$15,000 worth of goods for flood victims
Those affected by the floods of April 2011 continue to receive donations.{{more}}
This time, four households received a quantity of items, including beds, stoves and other kitchen and dining utensils, compliments the Council of St Vincent and the Grenadines Organizations (COSAGO) based in New York.
Marva Baptiste, Edward Baptiste, Ian Dallaway and Joseph Jack of Basin Hole, Georgetown, were the recipients of EC$15,000 worth of goods on Thursday, June 7.
The items were officially handed over by former Consul General Cosmos Cozier on behalf of COSAGO.
He explained that the beds and stoves were purchased locally and the rest of the items were sent from the United States. Each of the four individuals received a stove, bed and a quantity of the other supplies donated.
Marva Baptiste, one of the recipients, said that she was grateful for the items received, explaining that she lost a lot as a result of the devastating floods back in 2011.
âWe are grateful for these things to help us move on back with our livesâ¦it will carry us a long way,â she said.
Similarly, Ian Dallaway said he lost all his possessions during the floods which affected the northern regions of the country.
Since then, he said that he has not been able to start over and was thankful for the items that were donated to him.
Meanwhile Michele Forbes, Deputy Director of the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), said that a number of generous donations have been coming in during the aftermath of Hurricane Tomas in 2010 and the 2011 floods, from a number of Vincentian organizations in the US, and she wanted to say thanks for the kindness shown.(DD)
