This is the second year since the internship program was launched in 2011.
Last year, four students were lucky to receive hands-on work experience, and this year will be no different.
According to Brenelia Kirby, Communications Officer at Invest SVG, this year has seen the coming on board of six new partners.
The new companies are the International Financial Services Authority (IFSA), the National Insurance Services (NIS), IKTV, Ericaâs Country Style and the Government Employees Cooperative Credit Union (GECCU).
âThe program started last year on what we saw was the need for students who are making job decisions to get some work experience which will help to form their eventual career choices,â Cleo Huggins, Director of Invest SVG, said during the launch of the 2012 program on Tuesday, June 5.
She said that the idea was limited to secondary school students, because the thought was that many students would have already made up their mind as to what career choice they would want to pursue.
Students will be given a choice of which sector and company they would like to gain knowledgeable work experience from.
âWe recognized the need for well-rounded students and for them to have a better sense of the work environment,â Huggins continued.
This, she explained, came out during the recent Community College lectures where it was discovered that people did not know what was required on the job.
The application process mirrors that of an application process for an adult, in that students were required to fill out an application, provide references and produce a written resumé.
Invest SVG also announced that some activities were also launched to compliment and to spread the message of the 2012 summer internship program.
The internship program will begin on July 16 and run until August 10. (DD)
