Caesar, during his remarks at the Fishermanâs Day celebrations on May 28 at Calliaqua, said he was recently informed that fishermen are going to sea and releasing their fish pots and not returning for them.
ââ¦Because of that, I have advised the Chief today that from tomorrow, we are going to do a legislative overhaul of every single piece of legislation which concerns the fisheries sector in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,â Caesar said.
Caesar added that not only are there threats to marine life from the outside, referring to the Lion Fish, but there are also threats from the inside, such as persons fishing outside of season for certain marine animals.
He added that fish stock must be managed to control the net import of fish.
Caesar also said a tour of the âlength and breadthâ of the country that will aid in the advancement of fisheries in St. Vincent and the Grenadines is about to take place.
âWe will be touring the length and breath of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and we will be taking copious notes as to what are the drawbacks and how we are going to advance our efforts in fisheries,â Caesar said.
He added that he has noted in many cases, there is a gulf between the ministry and persons in the private sector who they have to work with. He further stated that they must breach the gap. He added that every fisherman, forestry official and farmer has a role to play.
âI want us to join in this national effort as we continue to build this very important productive sector,â Caesar said.
Caesar added that he will be traveling to Barbados with a technical team to discuss banana accompanying measures. He added that the country is slated to receive around EC$31 million to go towards the agriculture sector. Caesar stated that he wants to include 500 000 Euros for the fishermen and fisherwomen of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.(OS)
