Giving remarks at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the SVG Port Authority Edwin Snagg stated that safety is a concern for the entire working environment, for every employee and management.
Relating an incident in which a past co-worker of his was crushed between two containers, Snagg stated that safety measures must be in place and must adhere to international standards.
Snagg stated that though high productivity is desired, safety needs to be enhanced.
Also giving remarks at the ceremony, Executive Director of the Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) Fritz Pinnock stated that things should not be done âmy wayâ anymore, but should be done in accordance with international standards.
Explaining that the CMI is the only accredited institution of its kind in the Caribbean, Pinnock stated that they offer several Bachelor of Science programmes for the industry.
He added that the workshop is an internationally certified programme and at the end, participants would receive certificates and also would have gained two degree credits, as they would have completed nearly 30 hours in the course. The workshop ran for five days.(OS)
