Rodriguez – The girls deserve the support of the public

“Our girls have been in training since August 2011 and this is the first time in a few years we have started so early. If the girls don’t do well, they deserve licks…,” Rodriquez quipped, while speaking to reporters at the Young Island Resort on Saturday, May 12.

“Our girls are very talented, they have the ability to motivate, inspire and capture patrons at the Victoria Park…”

Rodriguez said the girls deserve the support of the public for all the hard work they have been doing over the past weeks. She noted that they have been encouraging the contestants to be themselves and let patrons see what they have to offer.

Comparing the lead up to this year’s Miss SVG to others in recent years, Rodriquez said this year has been “really easy.”

According to the programme for Miss SVG show on June 2, the show will kickstart at 8:00 p.m. sharp, with a rendition of the National Anthem by Joselle Miguel, daughter of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Girlyn Miguel.

Shevrell ‘Candy Man’ McMillan will be the first MC of the night, followed by remarks from Minister of Culture, Cecil ‘Ces’ McKie.

Following McKie’s remarks, the contestants will perform a dance routine with the La Gracia Dance Group. This will be followed by the introduction of the second MC, Theresa Daniel and a guest performance from the Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra.

In the first judged category, the contestants will appear in swimwear, followed by the second judged category, talent. Performances will also come from the Best New Song winners for Vincy Mas 2012 in the Calypso, Soca and Ragga Soca categories.

The ladies will then appear in evening gowns for the third judged category, followed by the highly anticipated interview in the fourth judged appearance.

A tribute in song will be paid to the late Ingrid Mayers, Miss SVG 1978 and Shanika Small, who has been missing since October 2011.

She began training in August 2011 to compete in Miss SVG 2012.

Other performances will be done by Orande ‘Bomani’ Charles and ragga soca champ, Shernell ‘Skarpyon’ Williams. The final walk of Miss SVG 2011 will follow this performance and then the results and crowning of Miss SVG 2012 will cap off the night’s events.(KW)
