And to assist those oversized cops in his ranks, Commissioner of Police Keith Miller says that Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jonathan Nichols will implement a fitness program at the Old Montrose Police Training School.

“You cannot operate effectively if you are an oversized policeman,” Miller stated, as he spoke earlier this week.

Miller, who was at the time addressing officers at the opening of a Junior Non-Commissioned Officers’ orientation course, also noted that plans are also in place for officers to visit the doctor for a medical check-up to ensure that they are medically fit before they become a part of the fitness program.

“It makes you look ugly in your uniform,” he declared.

“Your deportment has to be smart as a policeman, and if you allow yourself to gain too much weight, well, you know it will financially cost us a lot, because we have to use more materials to build your clothes,” Miller said.

Miller’s comments were greeted by soft laughter from the policemen and women gathered.

Police officers were further advised that in order for them to be effective in their jobs, they must be agile.

“Agility is critical to policing,” Miller added.
