The training was conducted by Julie Bonnet, who is doing an internship at the Alliance Française.
The workshop, which took place on May 4, was opened with brief remarks given by Education Officer for Foreign Languages Flavia Howard, and Director of Alliance Française Vanessa Demirciyan. They highlighted the importance of foreign languages, as well as the need for students and teachers to be competent in using the target language and the value of dynamic classes.
Demirciyan also emphasized the fact that Alliance Française is always open for all teachers of French, to get material for their classes, to bring their students or even just to practise the French language.
During the workshop, Bonnet discussed the themes of the syllabus and asked the teachers to prepare activities on a theme. After each presentation, teachers discussed their method.
Bonnet also proposed other ways of introducing a theme, using audio-visuals. The practice of French language in class by teachers and students was also encouraged.
Participants expressed satisfaction at the interactive nature of the workshop and requested follow up workshops; they appreciated the manner of presentations by the facilitator.
The workshop was the first of a series of four workshops and to complement them, Bonnet will be visiting some schools where she will assist in the teaching of French.
