Addressing the incoming class at the ‘White Coat Ceremony’ on Monday May 7, Sir Frederick Ballantyne said that like the United States, St Vincent and the Grenadines has a zero tolerance for drugs.

“If you are caught with illegal drugs, you would be arrested, sent to prison and deported,” he said.

“I hope none of you would find yourself in this unfortunate position, because should this happen, neither myself or the Vice Chancellor or Dr Johnson (Dr Edward Johnson, Dean Caribbean Studies) can assist in any way,” Sir Frederick continued.

In his opening remarks, he said that he expected that the new students would be respectful to all Vincentians and that the students would behave and dress in a manner that was befitting of all students of medicine.
