Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace, during his weekly appearance on the New Democratic Party’s (NDP) New Times radio programme last Monday, said that he received the good news from Lynch, who is feeling much better.

“I was in touch with him a couple days ago, and … the news is good. It now looks unlikely [that] he’ll have to have any surgery at all. But he’ll have to have certain types of medication and so forth,” Eustace said.

Lynch, the host of the NDP’s New Times programme for over 10 years, left the state on Tuesday, April 3, for the United States, to receive medical treatment for failing eyesight.

Eustace said a panel of doctors examined Lynch and though they have recommended a second opinion, their view is that Lynch will not require surgery. He however must keep the pressure in his eyes at a certain level, Eustace said.

Eustace added that he doesn’t believe that the second opinion from another panel of doctors will change Lynch’s situation, based on what Lynch said about the thoroughness and the nature of the examination he underwent.

“Lynch himself said to me, he is seeing better since the pressure in his eyes has gone down to normal and the regime of medication he has to take. That is being determined by the doctors,” Eustace added.

He further stated that the doctors told Lynch that he will need a special set of glasses, which are being designed to take into account the years of elevated pressure in his left eye.

“That eye is pretty damaged and therefore whatever spectacles, glasses are being designed will take that into account,” Eustace said.

He added that Lynch anticipates that within a month’s time, he will be able to return to St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

“So I’m awaiting further developments but I must say that the news is good, and I’m sure that Mr. Lynch is feeling much more relieved now than he had over the last few months,” Eustace said.
