The EC$1,000 donation was presented to Major Jean Pierre last Thursday by Catherine Allen, a member of the group, and it was given to aid in the construction of the Childrenâs Home project which the Salvation Army has undertaken.
The gesture by Pastor Thompson to match the groupâs donation was in honour of his mother and his wife who were Salvationists.
âWe have seen the evidence of the work that the Salvation Army has done over the yearsâ, said Yvonne Browne, President of the group, âand think that the this project is a good one for us to make a contribution to.â
The Biabou Fitness group was established by the Health Promotion Unit of the Ministry of Health and the Environment, and they meet every Thursday at the Biabou Resource Centre for their fitness routines and general socialization. The group is quite active and also, as part of their 3rd anniversary celebrations, had a sponsored walk where most of the funds were collected.
âWorking with the Biabou Fitness Group demonstrates a realistic and positive image of active ageing,â said Ms Patsy Wylie, Chief Health Educator, âand it shows that our senior citizens can fully participate in community life. They are truly bridging the age youth gap.â
