Green Party’s Bongo Shines in custody after chopping incident
Up to press time yesterday, Executive member of the SVG Green Party, Joseph “Bongo Shines” Cain was still in custody at the Calliaqua Police Station, following reports of a chopping incident yesterday morning.{{more}}
Reports reaching SEARCHLIGHT are that Monty John, a resident of Ratho Mill/ Over Gutter, is a patient at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital nursing a single chop wound to his neck.
SEARCHLIGHT spoke with Brian Whiskey, a resident of the area, who said he saw what happened.
“This morning all before 6:00 am, he (Bongo Shines) come and start to use ah chain saw in some lands that he cleaning up next to way we live.
“So Monty come out and tell him to stop mek noise with the chain saw…,” Whiskey said.
He said that Bongo Shines then left where he was standing, came to where John was and chopped him on his neck.
According to Whiskey, there has been bad blood brewing between Bongo Shines and others in the area who live on “squat lands”.
“For a while now, we been having some argument about ah outside toilet we put up… We ain’t been get no space to put the bathroom, so that cause a problem. So after he start to clean up the land nearby now, he tell Monty he have to come and move the outhouse over this weekend. De man just mash down the toilet so…,” Whiskey continued.
“He had no right to do Monty that, bredren. I hear when he tell Monty, ‘Don’t gimme any talk now’, and all I hear is ‘woop’,” Whiskey said.
“Bongo Shines” Cain is said to have turned himself over to the police following the incident.
Cain contested the 2010 General Elections in the West Kingstown constituency on a Green Party ticket.
