Assistant Superintendent of Police Arnon King of the Criminal Investigations Department, when contacted, told SEARCHLIGHT that the incident took place in the Rose Place area, around 3:30 a.m., on April 21.

According to King, the men left Shark Bar and were walking in the Rose Place area when four men are alleged to have accosted them and snatched a chain and cellular phone belonging to the officers.

Kevin Butler of Long Wall and Shanel Jack of Rose Place have been charged in connection with the incident.

Other suspects are being sought by the police.

Meanwhile, French Consul Dr Francois Truchot told SEARCHLIGHT that it is unfortunate what took place, but he is thankful that the men were not seriously injured.

“It is very unfortunate what happened. I hope that nothing like this happens again…,” he added.

Truchot said the men were taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and released later that day.

The men, along with other naval officers, arrived here aboard the ‘Dumant D’Urville’ last week, to execute a real time exercise to demonstrate the ability of the French Navy to deliver humanitarian aid in the event of a natural disaster.

The Duman D’Urville left St Vincent on April 24.
