Those are the words of Carlton Nanton, as he described the actions of his wife of 23 years, who on the night of Saturday, April 21, is alleged to have thrown hot water mixed with bleach on his face and body.

The forty-four-year old man of Magum Village, Overland, presently a patient at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, told SEARCHLIGHT that the situation could have been avoided if his wife had acted “more rational”.

According to “Cally”, as he is commonly known, his wife has been accusing him of having an affair with another woman. Nanton claims that he does have a child with another woman outside of his marriage, but his wife is aware of the situation.

Carlton and his wife have four children together, with the eldest being twenty-three and the youngest two years old.

“She knows everything because I told her, but she keeps saying that people telling her how I have the woman coming by me in Canouan.”

Nanton is a truck driver for a construction company in Canouan.

“The lady (his wife) did call me the Tuesday and tell me, say me and she finish and I must not call she phone. From that me ain’t call she phone and me ain’t say nothing to she.

“Me come over Friday and said nothing whatsoever to she,” he explained.

He explained that on Saturday night, he was resting at home, when his wife confronted him about a dress he had bought for his daughter, accusing him of bringing home a dress given to him by another woman for his daughter.

“The dress I pay $40 for, she say is not a new dress. She say is what the other woman bring for me and I must take it back and I tell her she ain’t want nothing from her for her child.”

Cally said he left his wife at home and visited his sister, following the confrontation.

However, upon his return home, Nanton claims that he went to bed, but was suddenly awakened some minutes to eleven by hot liquid, which turned out to be hot water mixed with bleach being splashed in his face.

“Me inside on the bed lying down, me alone, and all of a sudden me receive a shot in me face. When I do observe, is boiling hot water mixed with bleach.

“From the time she throw the water in me face, I jumped up, but she had the back door open and when I tried to reach her, she dropped the juice jug and run…”

Nanton said his wife ran down the road and he shouted “Yo ah run gwarn then, go ahead and run.”

At the time of the incident, the couple’s children were in bed sleeping.

Following the incident, Nanton said he was rushed to the Sandy Bay clinic from where he was transferred to the MCMH.

While at the hospital, Nanton said his wife called him on his cell phone and told him “you deserve what you get.”

“She say that is how I make she feel and everybody ah tell she that whatever she did to me, she right to do it to me.”

Upset about what transpired, the Overland man is blaming the incident on the rumours persons have been feeding his wife with.

“People calling she and saying all sort of things and even though that’s only dem say. How can you take dem say and try to end my life?” he asked.

He said that if his wife wanted out of the relationship because of rumors, she could have just calmly spoken to him and they would have worked it out.

“Just like how she tell me on the phone when I been in Canouan that we finish, she could have done that face to face instead of doing this to me,” he further stated.

Nanton’s grandmother was also visiting during the time of the interview and told SEARCHLIGHT that she is amazed at what transpired and is praying that things work out for the best.

Cally, on the other hand, said he is not willing to work out his marriage because of the actions of his wife.

“This not the first time she tried something like this and I am not going to work nothing out. That’s it,” he said.

When contacted, the Sandy Bay police said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
