Eustace revokes Senatorship

The appointment of Anesia Baptiste as a Senator in the House of Assembly has been revoked by Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne.{{more}}

Announcement of the revocation was made last Friday, April 20, by Leader of the Opposition Arnhim Eustace.

Shortly before 11:00 a.m., Eustace called in to his New Democratic Party’s (NDP) programme on Nice Radio and read from a letter he said he had sent to Sir Frederick Ballantyne on the afternoon of Thursday, April 19.

“Dear Your Excellency, in accordance with Section 29(2) of the Constitution of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, I wish to advise your Excellency, to revoke forthwith, the appointment of the Honorable Anesia Baptiste, as Senator in the House of Assembly,” Eustace read.

The Opposition Leader did not comment further on the revocation, but said “perhaps on [his] programme on Monday DV, [he] may do so.”

Baptiste took the oath as Senator on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, following the NDP’s narrow 7-8 defeat by the Unity Labour Party in the December 13 2010 General Elections.

Under the NDP shadow Cabinet, Baptiste was given responsibility for family and gender affairs, and social justice, including ecclesiastical affairs.
