SVG joins in celebration of WIPO Day
Several activities are to be held in St Vincent and the Grenadines to mark World Intellectual Property Day.{{more}}
World Intellectual Property Day is observed each year on April 26. The day was designated by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) to increase understanding of the meaning of intellectual property. The theme for this year is âVisionary Innovatorsâ.
The highlight of the activities here in St Vincent and the Grenadines will be an Open Day at the Commerce and Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) on Thursday, April 26 – World Intellectual Property Day. Visitors to CIPO on that day will be provided with information on intellectual property and the services being provided by the Office.
Other activities planned to mark World IP Day, as the day is also called, include an interview with Trinidad and Tobago-based WIPO Consultant, Mary-Anne Richards, on Global Highlights on Saturday, April 21, on Nice Radio, a discussion on NBC Radioâs Views on issues programme on the Sunday, April 22, a discussion programme âUnrenderedâ on IK TV, also on Sunday, April 22, and a presentation on the television programme The Law and You, hosted by Queenâs Counsel and former Attorney General, Parnel Campbell on Monday, April 23.
The activities in St Vincent and the Grenadines are being co-ordinated by the Commerce and Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), in collaboration with the Eastern Caribbean Collective Organisation for Music Rights (ECCO).
The Commerce and Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) is a statutory agency of the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines, established under the Commerce and Intellectual Property Office Act, Cap. 310, of the Revised Laws of St. Vincent and the Grenadines 2009 Edition.
Among its many functions is the protection of intellectual property in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
ECCO is the collective management society registered with CIPO under the 2003 Copyright Act. ECCO is governed by a Board of Directors comprising persons from the OECS and has agents in each territory. Vincentian Joffre Venner is a member of the Board of Directors, and the local agent is Bernard Joseph.
