Chile donates laptops to SVG Community College

10 laptops were handed over on Thursday, April 5, to the four divisions of the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Community College from the Chilean Government.{{more}}

The handing over ceremony took place at the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies Library Conference room and was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Douglas Slater and the Ambassador of the Republic of Chile Patricio Pradel, among other officials.

Foreign Minister Slater said he was more than pleased to be a part of the handing over ceremony, which is as a result of negotiations between the government of Chile and the government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in an attempt to strengthen ties between both countries.

Slater said his government is aware of the need for catching up with the outside arena, especially when it comes to technology and education as technology is quickly advancing. He encouraged the students present to make maximum use of the laptops and derive all the benefits in the process.

Flavia Howard, Education Officer within the Ministry of Education, expressed gratitude for the donation of the laptops on behalf of the Minister of Education Girlyn Miguel, who was unable to attend.

Howard said the donation comes at a time when the government is placing a great emphasis on Information Technology in Education. She urged the recipients not only to take care of the laptops but to use them wisely.

The Chilean Ambassador said he was honored to be able to make the contribution on behalf of his government.

He said education is a very important aspect and his government will continue to work along with the government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to make principal contributions to the health and Education sectors in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The laptops will be used by all Spanish students of the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies, the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Division of Teacher Education, the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Division of Technical and Vocational Education and the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Division of Nursing Education.
