SJCM Young Leaders learn about styrofoam products and the environment
The SJCM Young Leaders have been very busy, collecting styrofoam, interviewing food vendors and making a trip to the St Vincent Corrugated Company.{{more}}
The SJCM Young Leaders hope to reduce the use of styrofoam products in
St Vincent and the Grenadines. Styrofoam is bad for the environment and doesnât degrade well.
As the SJCM Young Leaders continue with their project, they spent some time interviewing food vendors around St. Vincent and informing them of the ill-effects of styrofoam.
They found out most people use this product because of the cost and ease of use. Some people actually preferred how the product makes the food look.
During their interviews, they also discovered that the majority of food vendors would switch to a cardboard product, if the cost were similar to styrofoam.
So upon hearing this news, it was decided that a trip to the St Vincent Corrugated Company in Campden Park was in order. The SJCM enjoyed an afternoon tour of the facility and examined the products that the company make. They make a small box that would be great for use at BBQâs or for other food vending, and it would be even better for the environment.
The SJCM YOung Leaders will be visiting schools next week to talk about Climate Change and how styrofoam products are influencing the environment. Let us all try to reduce the use of styrofoam.
