GHS off to Guyana and Suriname

Seventy-one excited fourth formers of the Girls’ High School (GHS), accompanied by twelve teachers and two parents/guardians, are now on a 10-day tour of Guyana and Suriname.{{more}}

The 85-person strong contingent, which left St. Vincent on Sunday, March 11, is led by Shereline Roberts, Head of the School’s Social Sciences Department.

She describes Guyana as “a country that lends itself to a wide range of geographical sites, rich cultural expression, and a strong appreciation for Caribbean history.”

Thus the fourth form students of History, Geography and Principles of Business will be given the invaluable opportunity to study firsthand the varying landscapes, and the rich historical background of the country; all of which constitute an integral part of the Caribbean Examination Council’s Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC3).

In Guyana, the group’s security and health services will be provided by the government of Guyana, a courtesy arranged by the Prime Minister’s Office here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

This is the fourth overseas educational tour embarked on by the Social Sciences Department of the GHS in recent times. In 2011, fourth formers toured Jamaica, in 2010 they toured Cuba, and in 2009 they visited Venezuela.
