Six receive Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Six persons received the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award from Prince Edward the Earl of Wessex, during a special ceremony at the Government House.{{more}}

The Awards ceremony was part of the official programme for the visit of the Earl and Countess of Wessex to St Vincent and the Grenadines on Saturday, February 25, 2012, as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The Gold Award recipients are Tamira Browne, Robyn Hadaway, Sawandi Ralph, Teroy Paul, Stevan Quashie and Velitha Baptiste. Majors Bertillion Hamilton and Donald Browne were also given special awards for their contribution to the programme.

Browne and Hadaway, Rangers in the Girl Guide Association, completed their programmes in 2007 and 2004 respectively. Both served in the literary programme and were skilled in auto mechanics and arts and craft respectively.

Members of the Cadet Corps, Ralph and Paul both served in Instructing and were skilled in Drill. Ralph completed his programme in 2011 while Paul completed his in 2007. Baptiste, who also served in Instructing and was skilled in Drill, is also a member of the Cadet Corps. She finished her programme in 1997. Meanwhile, Quashie who served in Band Outreach, is skilled in Music and finished his programme in 2009.

Prince Edward, speaking briefly, commended the recipients on their achievements and praised the gathering for the support shown to the recipients of the awards.

The Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne thanked Prince Edward for presenting the awards to the recipients.
