Prince Edward plants tree at the Botanic Gardens

A new Pink Poui plant is currently nestled in the Botanic Gardens, after being planted by the Earl of Wessex Prince Edward on Saturday, February 25, 2012.{{more}}

The tree planting ceremony, which took place last Saturday, was one of the activities that the Earl and Countess of Wessex engaged in during their visit to this country. Their visit is a part of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex, before engaging in the tree planting, greeted and interacted with eagerly awaiting schoolchildren and other Vincentians who came out to meet the Royals.

Guests were also entertained with Steel Pan music from the Starlift Juniors and Genesis Steel Orchestras and a Maypole dance by students of the Biabou Methodist Primary School. The Earl and Countess were also welcomed with choral speeches perfomed by pupils of the C.W. Prescod Primary School and the Fair Hall Government School.

Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne and Benjamin Laborde and Andrew Lockhart of the National Parks Authority assisted Prince Edward with the planting of the tree, after which a commemorative plaque was unveiled by Prince Edward.
