Agriculture Minister to hold conference outlining rehabilitation strategies and way forward

Former Minister of Tourism Saboto Caesar, spent his first day on the job as the new Minister of Agriculture, Industry, Rural Transformation, Forestry and Fisheries, yesterday.{{more}}

The change in ministerial portfolio brings changes in the composition of the Ministry, which has been extended to encompass the Department of Industry, inclusive of the Bureau of Standards and the former statutory body, the Centre for Enterprise Development.

Caesar, who formerly served as a Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, spent his first day with senior members of staff, ensuring that the extended responsilbilties of the Ministry are smoothly carried out, so that his attention could be focused on several critical issues of production and productivity in the shortest possible time.

The Minister has organized a Press Conference for Thursday, February 23, to outline to the general public the current status of the Agricultural Sector and the way forward.

Caesar indicated that among the issues will be the Ministry’s strategy to deal with the rehabilitation efforts of the Banana Industry, in particular the control/eradication of the Black Sigatoka; a number of budgeted initiatives for the agricultural sector, inclusive of the programmes, plans and major activities coming out of the Budget for 2012.

The Press Conference will be broadcast live from the Ministry of Agriculture’s Conference Room on Thursday at 10:00 am.
