Who cut the covers at the Grammar School ground?

The management of the National Sports Council (NSC) and the workers stationed at the Grammar School Playing Field are trying to ascertain the motive behind the person or persons{{more}} who cut the covers used to protect the Cricket pitch at that venue.

Workers turned up last Friday morning to find the covers slashed.

Manager of the NSC Osbourne Browne, speaking at the Closing Ceremony of the SVG Masters Cricket Competition last Sunday afternoon at the Grammar School Playing Field, said he was seeking a reason for such an action.

Among the probabilities, Browne wondered if it was an instance of someone not wanting Cricket to be played at the venue.

The large blue cover had been placed on the pitch in preparation for the finals of the Sixes Competition between Sion Hill and CK Greaves Vintage Arnos Vale and the T/20 League finals between Arnos Vale and Log Enterprises Kingstown.

The cutting of the covers caused seepage on the pitch, occasioned by the rainfall Saturday night, and Sunday, caused a delay in the Sixes final.

Browne lamented that when the covers are destroyed or stolen, it becomes a financial burden on the NSC, and ultimately the tax payers of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

It is not the first time that venues under the auspices of the NSC have suffered losses by way of their covers.

In some instances, covers were completely removed, never to be retrieved.

At the Arnos Vale some years ago, a piece of a cover was removed, but was later found hidden on Great Head Bay. (RT)
