Sandy wins Kindle Fire from Searchlight

Petel Sandy is the grand prize winner of the Searchlight Midweek Treasure Hunt Series.{{more}} Sandy, a resident of Roseau, Sion Hill, collected her Kindle Fire at the office of Searchlight on Wednesday, December 28, 2011.

Sandy, who expressed her joy upon winning the Kindle, stated that it will come in handy for her children who also enjoy reading.

“My daughter said the first book she gonna download is Twilight,” Sandy said, adding that her daughter loves the book series.

The Kindle Fire is a 7” multi-touch display full colour device from Amazon Digital Services, which allows users to read books and magazines, watch movies, play games, listen to music and browse the Internet.

Sandy’s prize comes complete with a leather case, which can also be used as a stand for the device. The total value of the prize is approximately EC$900.

Sandy related that when she first began to participate in the Treasure Hunt series, she was not aware of a grand prize, but participated because she thought the series was interesting. She added that at first she used to read only the stories that seemed interesting, but gradually began to read more of the paper to become informed.

“The stories are very good,” Sandy said, about the articles written in the SEARCHLIGHT, adding that they kept her informed about the events and issues in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Sandy also encouraged persons to read the Searchlight.

CEO of the Interactive Media Ltd and Editor of SEARCHLIGHT Clare Keizer, presenting Sandy with her prize, also thanked her for her commitment to the newspaper. Keizer stated that Sandy’s commitment was seen in the number of times she entered the competition. She further stated that the number of Sandy’s correct entries showed that she was not only buying the newspaper to enter the competition, but that she was reading the stories deeply.

Sandy had a total of 25 correct entries with only two incorrect entries, in the competition which ran for 39 weeks. She also won a free online subscription to SEARCHLIGHT.

Also winning free one year online subscriptions to the SEARCHLIGHT were second placed Denise Prescod who had 19 correct entries, third place Juliette Hinds-Wilson with 18 correct entries and fourth place Roxann Hadaway with 15 correct entries.

The SEARCHLIGHT Treasure Hunt, which was launched in February, was a weekly quiz in which readers searched the Midweek edition of SEARCHLIGHT to find the answers to five questions published in the newspaper.

The Treasure Hunt, which had as its tag line “Where Reading is a Treasure” was co-sponsored by Bickles, Courts St Vincent Ltd, Jujube Bookstore and Digicel.

While the main objective of the competition was to promote reading and literacy, another objective, according to coordinator of the competition Molicia Charles, was to reward the readers of SEARCHLIGHT’s Midweek edition.
