VSPCA holds successful Holiday Barbecue Fundraiser

The Vincentian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, VSPCA, hosted its first Holiday Bar-becue Fundraiser this past Sunday at Sunsail in Ratho Mill.{{more}} The family-oriented and animal-welfare supporting crowd was drawn by advertisements of Ton Hoogstrated, local magician extraordinaire, pool access, delicious food, Santa Claus with presents for children, and an auction with amazing prizes that included: a weekend at Firefly Resort in Bequia, an all inclusive evening for two at Buccament Bay Resort, and a well-stocked hamper with donated items.

Guests were greeted with Christmas music in a beautifully decorated setting overlooking Blue Lagoon. The food was abundant and delicious, the atmosphere energetic and fun, and the cause was echoed to be a much needed one for St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Party-goers were encouraged to bid on three different auction items as many times as they pleased. Chances increased to win, the more tickets they purchased. In the end, there could be only one winner per item. Congratulations go to Chris Dotterill, third prizewinner of a hamper including a ham, Christmas cake, cookies, coffee, rum, and various other goodies. Second prizewinner Courtney Voce was not present, but is encouraged to collect her gift for an evening dinner for two at Buccament Bay Resort. Mark Campion was the lucky grand prizewinner for the weekend for two at Firefly, Bequia.

Current president of VSPCA, Peace Corps Volunteer Kiersten Anderson, wishes to thank the following individuals and groups for their generous donations and looks forward to their continued support:

Ton the magician, Santa and his elves, Jankie Glass for donating her time to decorate and the beautiful flower displays, Simon Carey, Manager at Sunsail for allowing VSPCA to use the facility and donations, Firefly and Buccament Bay Resorts, the Co-operative Bank for their never-ending support, Dr. Boyle for his BBQ skills and time on a Sunday, Coreas, CK Greaves, Bonadies Supermarket, and St. Vincent Distillers for all their generous donations. Lastly, all the wonderful members and volunteers who contributed time, ideas, money, and love to ensure this event would be a success- Trudy Arthur, Margaret Ferrari, Leslie Barnard, Winston Ferguson, Mary Barnard, Pam Ratti, Lisa Walker, Guy Walker, Walt Clark, Dr. Phillips, Sheena Johnston, Julie Lewis, Lindsay Ferrari, Jessica Greathouse, Liz Deppe, Lydia Rollan, and to all the guests who came- THANK YOU, and see you soon!

100% of profits earned from the event go to promoting VSPCA’s mission “to develop the infrastructure for the protection and rescue of animals in need, promote public awareness and understanding of the proper care of animals, and to strengthen the human and animal bond.

Please look for VSPCA in your community in the New Year, whether through offering discounted health services for pets, free educational and community workshops, or other animal-care oriented events.
