This year’s activity marks a return for the North Windward community to the Nine Mornings activities, after a two year hiatus, and according to Vennol May, Secretary Chairman and Event Coordinator of the Calinago Cultural Movement, it is going to be an event with a difference.

“It’s a great welcome back and a place where children and adults alike can come and feel involved,” May said.

According to May, in the past, the activity was put on by the community’s churches, but since the formation of the group back in February this year, a budget was included to light up Sandy Bay.

The activity is set to begin at 6:00 this evening with speeches from area representative Montgomery Daniel and the group’s chairman, and the lights are expected to be turned on at 7:00 p.m.

There will be performances by other community based groups, he said.

The theme chosen for the activities is ‘Let Christ shine in Sandy Bay’ and, according to May, persons attending are in for great things.

Patrons can expect some unique competitions as they compete for prizes. Some of the competitions include the soft drink competition, dancing and singing competitions and the bread and sausage eating competition.

The group will also be presenting food baskets to the elderly in the community. Children are also in for a treat on Wednesday, December 21, when the community children’s party sponsored by the Bowman brothers is expected to be held at the Gospel Chapel Church.

The lighting up will be held at the Black Arrow junction in Sandy Bay and, according to May, persons making the journey can expect to be captivated by the display.

“It is a new team and a new Christmas style for this year,” May said.(DD)
